Driving While Intoxicated

Wednesday, May 9, 2012 by Keiandra McCray

When people hear "DWI" they assume someone was drinking and driving. But that's not always the case. Did you know that driving after taking prescription drugs is the equivalent of driving drunk? You could be charged with a DWI if you are caught driving under the influence of prescription drugs. Unfortunately, Michelle Galvan of Houston, Texas learned this the hard way. The No-Zone:Driving near big trucks

Wednesday, May 9, 2012 by Lorene Garcia

On my daily commute I see cars jet in, out and around big trucks. My heart stops for these drivers. We may not understand the technique of driving big trucks however, to reduce the chance of a collision with a large truck, motorists must be familiar with a truck's physical capabilities and how it maneuvers.

Please do not pull in front of a large truck and suddenly slow down. The trucker will not be able to stop quickly enough to avoid crashing into you. A large truck takes longer to stop than a...

driving tan

Tuesday, May 8, 2012 by Lorene Garcia

As the temperatures rise here in Texas, the sun sizzles everything it can touch.  This reminded me about my yearly uneven arm tanning. Anyone who loves comparing silly tans or road trips can relate. I'm not keen on the idea of keeping melted sunscreen in my car so I've looked into window tinting.

Here is what I found out: the darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In Texas, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the...

Three Reasons to Not Drive in Flip Flops

Monday, May 7, 2012 by Keiandra McCray

1) Constant Need For Adjustment

Everyone knows that flip flops are comfortable, but unsecured. While driving, they could easily slide down, causing you to constantly reach down or move your feet to readjust the fit. This causes you to be distracted from the road, and could cause a wreck even if you just take your eyes off the road for a split second.

2) Could Get Stuck Under Gas Pedal

What if your shoe slides off when you are trying to switch between the gas and brake pedals? What if you are...

Texting and Walking

Wednesday, April 18, 2012 by Candice Robinson

While watching CNN recently, I saw a report that highlighted texting and walking. I was overjoyed! Just as I despise texting and driving, texting and walking bothers me.

I cannot count the number of times someone texting and walking has run into me as we were turning the corner. People texting and walking do not realize which side of the walkway they are on, when they are heading into an obstruction or who is around them. I see texting and walking so much, I decided to try it for myself....

We should be rallying our school boards to ensure the driver safety knowledge of the school bus operator.

The news story below is eye opening and heart breaking at the same time.

Hollywood's Mayor Peter Bober didn't pay a fine, go to traffic school or have any points added to his driver's license for allegedly traveling 20 miles over the speed limit on Hollywood Boulevard in December. His speeding ticket was dismissed last month due to "a technical deficiency," said Andrew Coffey, Bober's attorney.

"This happens all the time," Coffey said. "This is exactly why you hire an attorney."

Bober was detected via radar in his 2009 BMW.

Now for those of us who aren't privileged...
