Pedestrian Safety

Monday, April 23, 2012 by Candice Robinson

Jaywalking is not a term that you encounter much, at least not in Houston, TX, but you should beware Jaywalking is an offense in several US states, including Texas and Florida. Jaywalking regulations are designed to increase pedestrian safety and to reduce vehicle and pedestrian interaction. When it comes to pedestrian safety, some forget, the pedestrian always has the right of way, but must also obey traffic laws. Most crashes involving pedestrians, and most pedestrian fatalities happen at mid-b...

Florida Driver Safety

Wednesday, April 18, 2012 by Candice Robinson

I recently read a drunk driving story similar to a story in the FloridaWheelsinMotion.com course.  According to the New York Times, drunk driver, John Goodman, hit a vehicle, causing it to land in a drainage ditch. The driver of the vehicle suffered unconsciousness and eventually drowned.

As described in the Florida traffic school course, FloridaWheelsinMotion.com, Vanessa Montague's daughter, Mandy was a passenger of a vehicle with a drunk driver. The vehicle was involved in an accident...

Friday, March 9, 2012 by Vanessa Clement

Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks aims to reduce commercial motor vehicle related crashes, injuries and fatalities by combining outreach, education and evaluation with targeted enforcement activities to raise awareness among car and truck drivers about safe driving behaviors. In fatal crashes involving large trucks, 88 percent of the time the crash is attributable to driver error by both car and truck drivers. Do you pass school buses?

Thursday, October 13, 2011 by Kent Bissell
I recently read an article about an undercover sting operation which took place in Florida and I must say, I was somewhat shocked.   Apparently, there is a real problem in Volusia County Florida when it comes to drivers passing school buses, enough of one, the Volusia County Sheriff's Department initiated a "special traffic enforcement" to catch people passing school buses?

It is illegal to pass a stopped school bus, this is something everyone should know!

In Florida, the statute is 316.172 and...Read More »

Florida Traffic School

A school bus driver has been charged with being allegedly three times over the drink limit when she arrived at work just before her afternoon shift.
Lane Tripp, 46, was arrested and handcuffed after an off-duty deputy in Lee County, Florida, spotted her weaving through traffic in her own car.

He followed her to the school bus barn in Lehigh Acres where she was found sitting against a pole, smelling of  alcohol with bloodshot eyes, said the sheriff's office.

During a sobriety test, Tripp...

How to dismiss your ticket!

Friday, April 8, 2011 by Kent Bissell
A lot of people are unsure how to dismiss their traffic ticket and there is a reason for this uncertainty - there are a variety of ways to do it and the laws vary from state to state.

First off, paying the ticket does not dismiss it, when you pay a ticket, it typically indicates an admission of guilt and if the state has a points system, those points typically end up on your driver record, which drive up your auto insurance.

Ticket dismissal can be done one of two ways, you can contest your...Read More »

Boating and Driver Safety

Tuesday, January 11, 2011 by Candice Robinson
I recently read a report about a boater whose boat capsized in the Gulf of Mexico. The owner of the boat originated from Florida and like many Florida boaters- never took a boating driver safety course. The owner commented:

"I suspect it's an attitude similar to people who don't wear helmets on their motorcycles," a statement similar to those who don't wear seat belts.

Nearly 90 percent of boaters involved in accidents between 2004 and 2009 never have taken a boating safety course in Florida....Read More »

Florida Traffic School

Know the number of points for a Florida traffic ticket

Online Traffic SchoolYour drivers license is one place where points are a bad thing. If you are convicted of traffic violation such as speeding or any moving violation in Florida points will be accessed to your drivers license. And if you are an out of state driver the State of Florida will send the violation details to your state DMV.

When you are charged with a traffic violation in Florida in many cases you can avoid getting the points but once the points...

Risky Age Groups For Driving.

Monday, December 27, 2010 by Vanessa Clement

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the nation’s rate of motor vehicle crashes with fatalities has declined steadily and is now the safest on record. However, crashes continue to kill tens of thousands of Americans and injure millions more every year. Two groups of drivers are at risk of being involved in vehicle crashes: teen drivers and senior drivers. Mile for mile, teenagers are involved in three times as many fatal crashes as all other...

Houston Chronicle recently reported "Gov't Urges No Refusal policy on Drunken Driving." With more holidays coming soon law enforcement will be heavy on the roadways to enforce no drinking and driving.

  • Not less than $250 or more than $500 for a first conviction
  • Not less than $500 or more than $1,000 for a second conviction;

Thursday, November 18, 2010 by Kent Bissell
So I do not know how many of you caught this, the Pat Benatar references had me feeling fairly dated, but it is an interesting mix of Glee and Traffic School.   Kind of funny...

Dan Band is GREAT - enjoy this video, not your typical safety driving video!

Everyone Speeds

Tuesday, October 19, 2010 by B D
Everyone speeds.  Whether its just a couple miles or so over the speed limit or whether you believe the +10 theory.  But what happens when you are going over 100mph and get caught?

I started thinking of this when I read about an 82 year old woman getting caught going 110.  28mph over her age.  When she was pulled over, she was asked why she was traveling so fast.  "I was on my way to an appointment".  No matter she was cited for doing 55 mph over the speed limit.

In Florida, the civil penalty...Read More »

Common Driving Mistakes

Wednesday, September 29, 2010 by Candice Robinson
Point ReductionWe can all recall the intersection near our home with the convenient stop sign. We can quote the color, make, and model of vehicles that visit the intersection. We also know that police officers are never screening that intersection. A little touch and go at the stop sign doesn't hurt.....until you receive a citation for running the stop sign or other traffic consequence.

Running a stop sign is a common driving mistake that results in a three point moving violation. The following are also...Read More »
