Pedestrian Safety

Monday, April 23, 2012 by Candice Robinson

Jaywalking is not a term that you encounter much, at least not in Houston, TX, but you should beware Jaywalking is an offense in several US states, including Texas and Florida. Jaywalking regulations are designed to increase pedestrian safety and to reduce vehicle and pedestrian interaction. When it comes to pedestrian safety, some forget, the pedestrian always has the right of way, but must also obey traffic laws. Most crashes involving pedestrians, and most pedestrian fatalities happen at mid-b...

Florida Driver Safety

Wednesday, April 18, 2012 by Candice Robinson

I recently read a drunk driving story similar to a story in the FloridaWheelsinMotion.com course.  According to the New York Times, drunk driver, John Goodman, hit a vehicle, causing it to land in a drainage ditch. The driver of the vehicle suffered unconsciousness and eventually drowned.

As described in the Florida traffic school course, FloridaWheelsinMotion.com, Vanessa Montague's daughter, Mandy was a passenger of a vehicle with a drunk driver. The vehicle was involved in an accident...

Distracted School Bus driver

Sunday, April 15, 2012 by Vanessa Clement

Florida school districts can benefit greatly from our Florida approved traffic school. As parents, we want to make sure we choose the best doctors, the greatest schools but we don't think about the other areas of our children's life that are affected by people, like their school bus driver. We should be rallying our school boards to ensure the driver safety knowledge of the school bus operator.

The news story below is eye opening and heart breaking at the same time.

Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks

Friday, March 9, 2012 by Vanessa Clement

Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks aims to reduce commercial motor vehicle related crashes, injuries and fatalities by combining outreach, education and evaluation with targeted enforcement activities to raise awareness among car and truck drivers about safe driving behaviors. In fatal crashes involving large trucks, 88 percent of the time the crash is attributable to driver error by both car and truck drivers. Only 12 percent of the crashes are the result of vehicle defects, road conditions...

What NOT to do while driving

Friday, December 23, 2011 by Kiana Stewart
Megan Barnes was driving while doing what?!?!

No, the 37-year-old woman wasn't on her cellphone. She wasn't texting, either. The Florida Highway Patrol says Ms. Barnes was driving while shaving - there's more - driving while shaving her, uh, "bikini area." Well, that's what the cops call it.

It might not surprise you to learn that during Barnes' ride on the razor's edge, she allegedly crashed into the backup of a pickup truck in Cudjoe Key, Fla, according to CBS affiliate WFOR. Then, she and...Read More »

Do you pass school buses?

Thursday, October 13, 2011 by Kent Bissell
I recently read an article about an undercover sting operation which took place in Florida and I must say, I was somewhat shocked.   Apparently, there is a real problem in Volusia County Florida when it comes to drivers passing school buses, enough of one, the Volusia County Sheriff's Department initiated a "special traffic enforcement" to catch people passing school buses?

It is illegal to pass a stopped school bus, this is something everyone should know!

In Florida, the statute is 316.172 and...Read More »

Florida Traffic School

Friday, September 30, 2011 by Vanessa Clement

A common practice in the world of traffic court has been done away with.  It used to be when you got a ticket and took a driver safety course, you only had to pay a partial fine.  Back in 2009, Florida lawmakers changed a section of Florida Statute 318.15 eliminating discounts for drivers who attended traffic school.

Rick Silverman, a Tampa traffic attorney, explained that "They gave that discount to make sure the individual wasn't being punished extra on top of just paying the civil penalty,...Read More »

Drive With Courtesy, Not Arrogance

Thursday, April 28, 2011 by Candice Robinson
A employee asked me an interesting question one morning after their commute to work: Have you ever realized that some with noticeably exotic vehicles tend to drive extra fast or have risk taking driving behaviors....Yes. I replied. I have definitely witnessed that before. Some drivers drive with arrogance instead of courtesy.

This includes big wheel trucks, cars with V8 engines, exotic vehicles, and sometimes 18-wheeled vehicles. On many occasions, I personally, have almost been run over by...Read More »

Florida Traffic School

Thursday, April 21, 2011 by Sherry Kniffen

A school bus driver has been charged with being allegedly three times over the drink limit when she arrived at work just before her afternoon shift.
Lane Tripp, 46, was arrested and handcuffed after an off-duty deputy in Lee County, Florida, spotted her weaving through traffic in her own car.

He followed her to the school bus barn in Lehigh Acres where she was found sitting against a pole, smelling of  alcohol with bloodshot eyes, said the sheriff's office.

During a sobriety test, Tripp...

How to dismiss your ticket!

Friday, April 8, 2011 by Kent Bissell
A lot of people are unsure how to dismiss their traffic ticket and there is a reason for this uncertainty - there are a variety of ways to do it and the laws vary from state to state.

First off, paying the ticket does not dismiss it, when you pay a ticket, it typically indicates an admission of guilt and if the state has a points system, those points typically end up on your driver record, which drive up your auto insurance.

Ticket dismissal can be done one of two ways, you can contest your...Read More »

Does it pay to fight a speeding ticket

Friday, February 18, 2011 by Vanessa Clement

Many dismissals occur because a police officer cannot attend the hearing, but attorneys say that’s happening less often as police agencies encourage officers to attend court. Attorneys are trained to look for police mistakes in procedures and paperwork, but the majority of the ticketed, whether they represent themselves or not, will wind up paying something. Their best hope is to get the severity reduced, though they run the risk that with court costs the total could exceed the original ticket.

It...

New Technologies and Distracted Driving

Thursday, January 27, 2011 by Kent Bissell

Distracted driving was named the word of the year in 2009 by Webster's dictionary.   It is hard to believe the problem which has been with us for more than a decade, has been elevated so highly in the public consciousness as of late.

The new focus has also led to a virtual plethora of new companies, industries and applications all designed at making us safer drivers by either suppressing the ability to text or talk while driving, tracking the actual driver behavior in the vehicle via GPS or...
